The heat is absolutely relentless at BDIPC HQ today. It’s the kind of day that makes us want to strip down and stand in the backyard spraying ourselves down with the garden hose. And all of this is unfortunate, really, when you consider the fact we’ve been raising our own temperatures by pondering the, ahem, capabilities of Jens Voigt all weekend. We tried long and hard to think of anything other than that big German pounding away, but we just couldn’t stop turning it over in our minds.
Known for his superhuman ability to give it everything he’s got for seemingly impossible lengths of time, Jens has been pushing the peloton to its breaking point through these last few stages in the Tour. Crashing twice in the break on Saturday, we saw Jens get back up again and again to hammer his way back into the peloton. Impressive for any other rider, but really no big deal for Jens. After all, he’s been doing it for years. Jensie’s favorite thing is making it hurt, and you know how rough we like it, don’t you, Jens?
The forecast doesn’t show the temperature dropping down any lower than around a hundred degrees for the next few days. So Jens, think about devoting your rest day to testing the outer limits of our endurance. Show us exactly why they call you the Hard Man. This is your open invitation to come on over and spray us down. Face, chest, back, wherever you want: just make sure your aim is true. But leave your garden hose at home, Jens. Really, you won’t be needing it.
